Tour of two capitals – Tbilisi and Mtskheta

Private tour Introduction:

   On this tour we will explore historical sights of Tbilisi and visit ancient city Mtskheta.

 Tbilisi represents the heart of whole Caucasian region, the place where of different cultures living within one neighborhood. The Capital of Georgia – Tbilisi was founded 1500 years ago and has plenty of history. Throughout its history Tbilisi was invaded and destroyed for several times by different invaders. During our half-walking tour we’ll visit historically significant places of interest of Old town, such as: “Narikala” fortress, Metekhi Church, Sulphur bath houses and new Cathedral of Saint Trinity (Sameba).

 Mtskheta was an ancient Capital city of Georgia. Today it represents cultural and religious center of the country. We will visit UNESCO World Heritage sights and very important Georgian Orthodox churches and Monastery Complex, will get to know more about history of Christianity in Georgia.

 Tour highlights: 

 We will start our tour by picking you up from your hotel. First, visit Sameba Cathedral – the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world and one of the largest religious buildings in the world by total area. Then we’ll drive to the Old City, where we can explore the area by walking to Metekhi Church, Rike park, explore the ruins of the Narikala fortress and then stroll down to Sulphur Bath house district, and then Meidan square & Shardeni street neighborhood. Here you can find numerous souvenir shops, art galleries and cafes.

 After lunch we will drive to Ancient capital Mtskheta of 1st century, and see it’s historical monuments that are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari Monastery (temple of the “Holy Cross”), built in the 6th century. Stand on a high hill overlooking the confluence of two majestic rivers Aragvi and Mtkvari; Svetitskhoveli Cathedral – was built in the early 11th century and is the place where Georgian kings were crowned and buried.

 Later in the evening we will drive you back to your hotel.
